High Bents

Stunning views overlooking beautiful Swaledale

Perched on a hillside overlooking Gunnerside, High Bents has fabulous panoramic views of upper Swaledale, surrounded by magnificent scenery. Formerly two lead miners’ cottages, the house is lovingly restored, but retains its cottage atmosphere, with original features such as stone spiral stairs, a massive stone fireplace and traditional beamed ceilings. It has a well-equipped, lovely farmhouse kitchen and cosy sitting room with gas stove and comfortable furniture. Sleeping 6 + 2, plus baby, this wonderful home has an enclosed flagged terrace on which to sit and admire the stunning landscape spread out below - after a holiday at High Bents you'll never want to leave!

Week bookings at High Bents run from Saturday to Saturday (reserve online or ring us on 01748 886366).

Short breaks are available (see FAQs) - please telephone to make a short break booking. A 2 person discount of 10% is available on week bookings or short breaks. Mention when enquiring.

High Bents is reached by a steep, winding single-track road, with at least one very tight bend. Please ring for advice if at all concerned about accessibility, especially in winter weather.

Stunning views overlooking beautiful Swaledale

The house was bought by the current owners in 1969 when it was two separate cottages, one completely uninhabitable. There was no water, no electricity, no drainage and no toilet other than the rather dismal one outside! Water was brought in by the bucket from a spring and light was provided by candles and lamps. Fondly known as the stone tent! Over the years much refurbishment has been undertaken and Bents now has mains water and electricity, its own septic tank, LPG gas supply and Sky TV!

High Bents is located on a hill 300 feet above Gunnerside and is reached through an electronic gate up a winding single track road, with some very tight bends. Whilst perfectly accessible for most vehicles, it is not for the faint-hearted! Please ring for advice if necessary.

Sleeps 6 + 2 (dble sofabed in living room).
Gas stoves in kitchen and sitting room, electric storage heaters throughout.
All fuel and linen included.
Washing machine.
Dishwasher.
Telephone (honesty box). Orange (only) mobile reception in Gunnerside area (patchy).
Freesat TV, video/dvd players.
High chair and cot available (cot linen is not included).
Enclosed flagged terrace with garden furniture and BBQ.

Parking for 2-3 cars.
Please note, drainage at High Bents is to a septic tank.
Electric shower over bath - low beamed ceiling in bathroom, tall people please be aware!
