Charming 3 bedroom cottage with lovely features

Swaledale has many footpaths and interesting walks, from gentle rambles through Gunnerside meadows, to more demanding hilltop hikes, making the most of the spectacular views in this most beautiful part of Yorkshire.  Hazel Brow Organic Farm is found in Low Row, where children can see lambs and other animals close up, along with the Punch Bowl Inn (with the same owners as the CB Inn in Arkengarthdale), a gastropub serving good food and ales (and amazing bar furniture made by the Mouseman).  Gunnerside has a very friendly local, the King's Head, (dogs, children and muddy boots welcome), under new management, serving home-cooked fresh food and local beers. Ghyllfoot Tearoom is open for good food through the day and an excellent bistro on Wednesday and Saturday evenings (booking required).  The mobile fish and chip van calls in Gunnerside every Friday, from 7pm (earlier in Low Row).  Muker has home-cooked food at Muker Tearoom and the Farmer's Arms, and a craft shop/gallery, as well as Swaledale Woollens, selling items knitted locally from Swaledale sheep wool.

There are a wealth of places to visit throughout Swaledale, including the Kearton Country Hotel in Thwaite, various pubs, local shops (including Swaledale Outdoors for hiking equipment) and tearooms in Reeth, the Bridge Inn at Grinton, bike hire at Fremington, Dales Countryside Museum and the Ropemaker's in Hawes in Wensleydale and plenty of natural attractions, along with lead mining ruins, to be found on a day's walking.

Groceries can be delivered from Tesco's in Catterick Garrison, or from Granary Foods, based in Newton-le-Willows, a very friendly service with excellent local and organic produce.  Supermarkets in Leyburn, Richmond and Barnard Castle and Hawes has a few good food shops, including the Good Life on the little industrial estate.

The only mobile reception around Gunnerside area is Orange (and even that is variable), and no mobile reception updale past Satron.  There are recycling facilities at Keld, Muker, Reeth, Langthwaite and bigger towns.

Public internet access on computer at Gunnerside Village Hall, Muker Public Hall, Hudson House, Reeth.  Wifi internet access at King's Head, Gunnerside.  Granary Foods can deliver ready meals, home baking and local eggs, bacon, sausages etc for your arrival - see FAQs.

Comments from our Guest Book

Jun 10...VERY peaceful stay in a very friendly village. The Ghyllfoot/Penny Farthing Tearoom/Restaurant is excellent and must be tried. The cottage itself is very comfortable, which is ideal when you finally return from the King's Head!"
Chris and Kathy Bird, Beaconsfield, Bucks.
