|A very attractive terraced cottage in Gunnerside, warm and cosy, yet spacious enough for two double bedrooms. Newly decorated and furnished, with a multi-fuel stove, Christmas Cottage has true Dales character, combined with modern convenience and comfort. The cottage is a lovely house from which to explore beautiful Swaledale on the doorstep and to return to after long walks in the crisp snow or over hills covered with purple heather. A gem of a cottage for a holiday to remember!

Gunnerside is the gateway to Upper Swaledale, its quaint Dales stone cottages creating a wonderfully old-fashioned atmosphere. The village tearoom / bistro, Ghyllfoot, serves very good food (bistro open Wednesday/Saturday evenings, book in advance, takeaway curry Mondays) and you can buy ice-creams in summer at the Smithy Museum. A wonderful variety of walks and treks start and end in the village, with local shops, craft shops, galleries, museums, pubs, tearooms and Hazel Brow Organic Farm in nearby villages. Nearest pubs are the Farmer's Arms at Muker, 3 miles updale, and the Punch Bowl Inn, a gastropub at Low Row, 2 miles downdale. Post office, Friday market, garage, local shops, tearooms, Swaledale Outdoors for hiking equipment and recycling facilites available at Reeth, 6 miles. Bike hire at Fremington, 7 miles. Orange (only) mobile (patchy) reception. Hazel Brow Organic Farm can provide a welcome hamper for your arrival (Low Row) and Ghyllfoot Tearoom frozen "bistro-style" meals - see FAQs. Free wifi at Christmas Cottage.

Huge shame the weather has been so mild, so not so much call to light the fire as we might have liked! Great cottage with very comfortable beds, cosy lounge and friendly teddy bears. July 12… “We’ve had a great stay in Christmas Cottage. Everything we needed was provided and more – well equipped and comfortable. We’ve had some great meals, notably the Punch Bowl at Low Row was excellent, and a cream tea in Thwaite at the coffee shop. Pub good and very dog friendly. Walks from the cottage are great – would recommend walking to Muker through the meadows. We’ve really enjoyed our first visit to the Yorkshire Dales and I’m sure we’ll return… Curry from Tea Rooms on Monday evening good value and very warming. Pub meals are large!
